ESCA restructure for 2015 season offers Christmas cheer for GCC 2nd XI whilst 4th XI face prospect of a reduced fixture season.

It's that time of year where the cricket fixtures for 2015 aren't all that far away.

Firstly the good news for GCC 2nd XI. As briefly touched on during our recent AGM, Dunfermline Knights CC and Dunfermline Carnegie CC are merging to form one club and I'm sure everyone at GCC wish them the best of luck in rejuvenating cricket at McKane Park.

Following discussions between the new club and ESCA it has been agreed their 1st XI will play in Div 3 and their 2nd XI in Div 6. The knock on effect of that is that Westquarter will be promoted to Div 2, Glenrothes 2nd XI to Div 4 and Heriots 3rd XI to Div 5.

So belated congratulations to Willie Morrison and all who played in GCC 2nd XI on securing the 2014 season objective of promotion to ESCA Div 4.

The flip side of this restructure is that the ESCA committee, after considering a whole variety of scenarios for Div 8 and Div 9; have decided to restructure into a single 14 team league with everyone playing each other only once.

If this structure is finalised by ESCA within the 2015 fixture list then regrettably it will mean 5 blank Saturday's for GCC 4th XI; undoubtedly a kick in the teeth to the team that won the Div 9 Championship last season and keen to get more regular Saturday cricket following the mass of opposition call-offs in 2014.

GCC members should be aware that we have made contact today with the ESCA competitions committee in hope that there is still scope to retain the status quo of two 7 seven team leagues with each team playing each other 3 times and ensuring every Saturday of the regular season contains a fixture.

The club will report back to members on the outcome in due course and would like to assure our members that the Management Team we will consider every available option to ensure you have the best possible chance of playing regular league cricket (as opposed to friendlies) during the 2015 season.
