All 3 Saturday Games Lost To Rain

All 3 Saturday Games Lost To Rain

Eddie Gibbs18 May 2013 - 18:46

Our 1st XI match versus Forfarshire, 2nd XI visit to Teuchters & 4th XI game at Gilvenbank against Watsonians were all lost as a result to heavy rain.

We'd all seen the weather forecast and knew for sure that the dry cloudy start to the morning would make way for some heavy downpours across Scotland around lunchtime.

The forecast was pretty much on the button, although the rain did come to Glenrothes around 1 hour earlier than predicted.

Our 1st XI had just set the ground up, complete with new sightscreens and repaired the covers following vandalism a few weeks ago. The Forfarshire players and match umpires had also parked up and no sooner had they locked up their cars then down came the first spots of rain. As things got heavier the umpires called off the match just after 12pm.

The 2nd XI took some smart action in conjunction with the Teuchters CC captain and had already delayed travelling by 1 hour to see if the rain in Edinburgh would pass, again the forecast was true to form and game was cancelled before our players headed out of town.

Yet again the first ever match at the Gilvenbank Park was lost to the elements, with 4th XI skipper John Bell calling off the game against Watsonians around 11.30am. Conditions looked good on inspection at 9.15am and had it not been for the late morning rain then the match would most certainly have been played.

The fixture list is not yet complete for the weekend though as far as GCC are concerned. Sunday has the 3rd XI slated in to play Stirling County 4th XI at the Riverside Park and our youngsters from the Glenrothes Gladiators are set to play competitive cricket for the first time ever at the Largo Kwik Cricket Festival. Let's hope todays rain hasn't scuppered things to much with a drier forecast predicted.
