The number of players we now have available for Saturday cricket is quite phenomenal and has presented the captains with selection dilemma's the likes of which some clubs can only dream about! With this in mind Greig Hopcroft through his role with ESCA advised that there was an odd number of teams playing in Division 9 and whilst impossible to enter the league at this late stage it should be possible to organise non-league matches against the teams in the weeks where they no longer have matches due to the odd number. Greig has since contacted ESCA as well as several of the clubs and has had an overwhelmingly positive response with some fixtures quickly agreed (click here) and others close to being finalised.
Clearly due to matches already being scheduled at the Riverside Park every Saturday, our new 3rd XI will mainly be playing away matches this season. We would add though that there is hope we could enter a team in Division 9 next season plus potentially host some 3rd XI matches in the remaining spare dates that the teams have this season; so we are making a huge effort with Fife Council to allow for the quick installation of an artificial wicket at Gilvenbank Park – to the side of what will hopefully become our main pitch in the near future.
If any teams (East/Central Scotland based) would welcome a Saturday friendly against Glenrothes CC 3rd XI, home or away, then please contact team@glenrothescc.co.uk.
