Glenrothes CC are delighted to announce that Scott Lucas will take over from retiring skipper Darren Lewis for the 2016 season.

When we became aware Scott was interested in taking over from Darren it was a fairly simple choice
- Kenny Crichton, Club Chairman

Scott who played an important part in league title wins for both GCC 1st XI and 2nd XI in 2015 has previously captained the clubs U18 side along with various regional academy teams and is relishing the prospect of leading a senior side for the first time.

He commented; “Our 1st XI have progressed quickly and anyone who follows Scottish cricket will be aware of that, but the 2nd XI have been in their slipstream the whole time and have progressed from ESCA Division 7 to Division 3 in consecutive seasons. We are keen to maintain that progress and are looking forward to the challenge”.

“Several club stalwarts who have played major roles in the rise of the 2nd XI, most notably Willie Morrison, Chippy Dale and Darren Lewis have announced their retirements from the game and it will now be up to me and the other lads to try and fill the huge voids they have left”.

“I cannot wait to get started and hopefully senior players like Guy Robison, Chris Humphreys and Ross Mearns who excelled with bat and ball respectively last season can start the new season where they finished the previous one. I’ll also be looking to the 3rd XI who also gained promotion last season and challenge all on the fringes of 2nd XI selection in previous years to push their game to new heights in 2016.”

Club Chairman Kenny Crichton added; “When we became aware Scott was interested in taking over from Darren it was a fairly simple choice. Scott is a very talented young cricketer and can perform comfortably with bat and ball in either of the clubs main two teams. For him to to take up the challenge of the 2nd XI with a view to developing his game as both a player and more importantly as a captain is pivotal to this appointment and I’m confident he’ll be a great success”.

Following a raft of retirements during the close season Glenrothes CC are eager to find new players to fill the 44 spaces we need for league cricket every Saturday in 2016. Regardless of whether you’ve played the game before or not please contact Graham Dodds Snr on 07825043194 if you’d like to give cricket a go this year – indoor training is free and regular between now and the start of the season, so there’s nothing to lose.
