Following the 9 week wait for a game the 1st XI didn't have to wait long for their next match, 24 hours in fact!! The East Regional Academy side made the trip from a very wet and miserable Edinburgh only to find a dry and perfectly playable Riverside Park for the latest East League division 1 match.
Skipper Ian Dale won the toss and elected to bat with Steve Rowley and Greig Hopcroft once again taking to the crease. An excellent opening partnership of 50 runs when the runs were very hard to come by was broken with Rowley out caught behind for 11 runs. Hopcroft and Greaves continued where they left off the previous day picking up runs when available against some strict bowling from the young academy side. A torrential downpour of rain would normally have ended the game, however the clubs new cover came into its own once again keeping the pitch dry and allowing tea to be taken during the 60 minute break.
The rain then cleared and the game continued, Greig Hopcroft reaching his 2nd successive 50 before being given out LBW to a ball that kept very low. Greaves and Davidson continued the momentum with Chris Greaves reaching his 50 before chopping on the very next ball. A few more wickets fell but Glenrothes managed to reach 181 for 8 from their 50 overs.
A quick turnaround and the players were back on the field. However, it didn't take long for Glenrothes to take control of the match with a few early wickets putting the Academy on the back foot very early on. A fantastic run out from Ryan Watson followed by some top notch bowling once again from Steve Rowley who managed 2 for 16 from his 10 overs to tie down the batsmen and deny them any runs. Once again the spin twins Chris Greaves and Ryan Watson came into the attack to close the game our. Greaves bowled tightly with 1 for 16 from his 6 and Ryan Watson taking his first 5 wicket haul for Glenrothes with 5 for 9 from his 6 overs. The Academy eventually all out for 64, and 20 points stay in Glenrothes. 3 weeks of the season to go and Glenrothes remain top with 100%. Next week sees a trip to Edinburgh to take on Murrayfield DAFS at Roseburn Park.
