“Baltic, the coldest I have ever played in” - Ian Dale

Glenrothes skipper Ian Dale lost the toss and was asked to field on a very cold April afternoon at Freuchie, opening pair of Farooq Khan & Kenny Crichton were given the new ball, and Khan had success with his first delivery of the match getting B Forrester out caught at mid off this was followed quickly by four more wickets Khan with two and Crichton with the two, this was an impressive start from Khan & Crichton the latter making his debut for the club. This brought veteran Freuchie batman S Gourlay and captain J Wallace too the wicket both playing some lovely shots to all parts of the ground. This brought a bowling change with Chris Greaves coming on for Khan and Darren lewis for Crichton both bowlers struggled to find there line and length, so this brought another bowling change veteran all rounder Steve Rowley coming on to bowl and slowing down the run rate but could not stop both batman reaching f ine half centuries. At this point with two new batman at the crease Glenrothes looked to finish off Freuchie's innings at this point the heavens opened and the innings came to a close both skippers agreeing that we would take tea and reduce the match from 40 overs to a 32 over match.

Glenrothes began there innings with opening pair Greig Hopcroft & Guy Robinson, again the latter making his debut for the club. Freuchie bowlers D Cowan & overseas amateur Shazad opening the bowling, Shazad striking early with the wicket of Robinson LBW for nought this brought C Greaves to the wicket next to go was Hopcroft bowled by the impressive Shazad, next in Glenrothes skipper Ian Dale it was not to be his day either being bowled for nought, arriving next at the crease was Veteran all rounder Steve Rowley, between him and Chris Greaves they started to build a useful partnership moving the score on nicely, this was brought to an end by the Freuchie pace man Shazad and youngster F Black the latter bowling Greaves for a very useful 36 runs, this brought yet another debut boy to the crease Richard Evason but again went quickly to the impressive Shazad who with the next three wickets achieved a rar e hat-trick by this time the score board had moved on steadily closer to the total of 136 to win. with Khan & ex Freuchie player Kenny Crichton at the crease this saw the away side reach the total with Farooq Khan hitting a massive six to win with an over to spare.
