A close fought game with Glenrothes 1st XI falling just 6 runs short.

Glenrothes travelled up to Arbroath for the T20 match, and after it was postponed twice, it was hoped that it would be third time lucky. Glenrothes lost the toss and the Arbroath skipper elected to bat first. Their opening pair, of Ritchie and Mclean looked to get the home side off to a good start, but Glenrothes’ opening bowlers Khan and Greaves had other ideas, with Khan taking the first wicket. With the score on 8 this brought Mcgill to the crease, but once again Khan struck, taking the two wickets of Mcgill and Mclean in his next over. The score had moved on to 17 and brought the Arbroath skipper to the crease, and right from the start he increased the run rate with some excellent running between the wickets. With Reisima, he took the score onto 57 before the next wicket fell, that of Reisima. Glenrothes looking to keep the pressure on the batting side started to give away too many one’s and two’s. This helped the batting side move onto 83, before Grove was next man out. Enter Peal, and with his skipper, put on a fine partnership of 44 taking the total to 127 for 5, with Burnett 49 not out and Peal 19 not out.

Glenrothes started with opening duo Rowley & Watson, who quickly set off on the run chase with some fine running between wickets, with the odd boundary thrown in. Glenrothes quickly moved the score to 67 before Rowley was given out LBW for 19. His opening partner, ex Scotland star Watson, had moved quickly into his thirties when he was joined at the crease by vice captain C Greaves. Together they kept the score board ticking over nicely, taking the score to 105 before Greaves was bowled for 15. This brought BOOM BOOM Khan to the crease, but sadly it would have been better if ZOOM ZOOM had gone out to bat, as Khan was run out for 2. With the score on 111, skipper Dale was next in. With only 8 balls remaining, and with 18 runs needed for victory, Glenrothes still had a chance of winning. Watson was still at the crease, reaching a fine fifty, batting right through until the twentieth over. He was eventually caught in the deep, looking for the boundary that would have seen Glenrothes victorious. Sadly Glenrothes fell short by 6 runs.
