Glenrothes 1st XI secure ESCA Div1 title and 104* for Greig Hopcroft.

Glenrothes made the short trip to Largo, hoping to round off the season with a victory and take them to the league title. As it turned out, due to the bad weather late in the day, the game was called off. This handed the league title to Glenrothes.

Before the rain came, Glenrothes were put into bat by the home side. The new opening pair of Willie Morrison and Greig Hopcroft made a solid start to the innings, working hard against some fine line and length bowling from Largo. It was hard work to keep the scoreboard ticking over, but both openers did their jobs. The first wicket to fall was that of Willie Morrison who was promoted from the second team to open the batting, a fine knock of 19 before being bowled by N Rintoul. Next into bat was Chris Greaves who quickly got into his stride, looking to up the run rate with some fine running between the wickets with Greig Hopcroft .

Glenrothes looked to take control of the game at this point with both batsmen playing some fine shots to all parts of the ground, especially Greig Hopcroft who had, by this time, moved to yet another half century for the club closely followed by Chris Greaves with his half century. This was the much needed partnership that has been missing in previous games. Next to fall was Chris Greaves for a fine 54, stumped off the bowling of B Bentley. With overs running out, Farooq Khan was sent in to try and hit some big shots and set the highest total possible. Farooq Khan was out next, bowled by Rintoul for 2. Next in was skipper Ian Dale. He went quickly for 2, being caught and bowled by Bentley, a season to forget on a personal performance note for Ian Dale but extremely proud that he skippered the 1st XI to the league title. Stephen Rowley was next in to support Greig Hopcroft to the end of the innings, which he did being 6 not out, setting a total of 192 for 4
All the praise must go to Greig Hopcroft batting throughout the 50 overs and hitting a superb 104 runs not out in the process: a fine knock.

Largo’s reply lasted two overs, with Jordan Davidson taking the only wicket before the heavens opened, and the game was abandoned.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank a few people Edward Gibbs our chairman for the support he has given me throughout the season, Chris Greaves my vice-captain who has helped me on and off the park, Greig Hopcroft for all he has done to help me this season, all the players, and lastly the club sponsors LiveSport.co.uk .

The league title is in the bag guys let’s now focus on the playoff game against Dundee High CC next Saturday. Make sure all who are available have their ticks up for selection and if you’re not selected come along and support your club.
