Saturday saw Glenrothes CC 3rd XI make the trip along the Fife coast to play Dalgety Bay in the league.

Skipper Andy McAulay maintained his 100% record by losing the toss again and the Glens were immediately asked to bat first on a hard and bouncy artificial wicket at Dalgety Bay Leisure Centre by his home team counterpart David Picksley.

So it was McAulay and opening partner Manju Kadanaik who strode out to the middle to get things underway against the pace bowling of Picksley and youngster Peter Pryce. McAulay was once again into his stride quickly by punishing anything full of length with some straight drives for four and defending stoutly against anything threatening. Kadanaik played his part too and supported the Glens skipper well by keeping the score ticking over at a good rate. The 50 partnership came up in the 16th over and things were at that stage looking good with the opening bowlers having been seen off. Shortly after however Kadanaik was clean bowled by Dalgety Bay's 1st change bowler Jamie Pryce one over later.

When drinks were taken after 20 overs the Glens were in a good position on 57 for 1. This interruption however seemed to ruin McAulay's concentration as he too was bowled by the 2nd ball after the resumption of play by a delivery from Dalgety Bay's Jamie Pryce which cut back sharply off the pitch having scored 29 runs

Bad availability problems meant that Glenrothes had 5 players in the side who were relatively new to the game so this meant that wickets started to fall regularly. The ship was however then steadied by the experience of Andy Muir who punished some wayward bowling in his quick fire 19 before running himself out. Chris Yarwood also chipped in with a handy 12.

The Glens innings ended on a lowly 105 but the improved batting of youngsters Daniel Wood and George Gawthrop was a plus point just before the last wicket fell.

If Glens were to have any hope of victory then wickets would have to be taken, and quickly. Their opening batsmen from earlier in the afternoon then became the opening bowlers as McAulay and Kadanaik were 1st to try for the early breakthrough.

When none was forthcoming the Glens skipper changed things around regularly in attempt to create pressure on the home batsmen, but sadly it wasn't to be, although Richard Cox bowled an excellent 8 over spell taking 3 for 38 in the process. Brian Morris also bowled very well and was unlucky not to take a wicket whilst only conceding 25 runs from his 7 overs. Andy Muir also chipped in with a wicket just before the winning runs were struck.

So it was a comfortable 6 wicket win for Dalgety Bay, but things would surely have been different for the Glens if they could've fielded a stronger side. Here's hoping they can start to do this very soon.
