Glenrothes 3rd XI remain unbeaten after 9 ESCA Div 8 matches

Glenrothes 3s hosted Edinburgh South at Gilvenbank on Saturday, and were put at a disadvantage from the start when Nick Diston failed to turn up. Frantic phone calls discovered he was in Edinburgh and had forgot he was playing, so skipper Craig Gould had no option but to go with 10 players.

Gould won the toss and elected to put South into bat.

Brian Morris and Gavin Henderson were the opening bowlers for Glens and kept it tight in their respective opening spells with Gav taking the first wicket in the 4th over.
Glens made a double bowling change after 8 overs, with Gould opting for the experience of Keith Graveling and Graham Dodds Senior.

Both of them bowled excellently well and took 4 wickets between them as they both bowled straight through their allotted 8 overs each, Doddsy taking 3 for 20 and Keith unluckily only picking up one wicket for 15 runs.
In amongst this, Ian Green and skipper Gould combined to run out youngster Blood
The pony tailed Aussie Darren Palmer came on from one end with Gav returning for his second spell at the other. Darren took 1 wicket and Gav another 2. Gav returning fine figures of 3 for 23 from his 8 overs.
South's 10th wicket partnership proved stubborn, but was finally breached when Gandalf Morris claimed Dhar's wicket with the help of a fine catch by Gav.
South ended their innings on 108, and another fine fielding and bowling performance from Glens had set them up nicely to chase a very reachable target.

Club Chairman Eddie Gibbs and Andy Muir formed the opening pair, and they proved to be a very capable opening partnership. Muir took the initiative and punished every loose ball going, whilst Gibbs had the unenviable task of keeping out the pacy Semit who was proving a very good bowler.

The pair saw off Semits first spell and both set about the change bowlers and pushed the score onto 86 before Andy played his poorest shot of the day and scooped on up to the South keeper and was out on 49!!
G. Dodds snr joined Eddie in the middle and in a blink of an eye the pair had Glens on the verge of victory on 106.
Eddie then played all around a straight ball and was bowled for a fine 31 and then, coming in at number 4, Gav Henderson did the same to the very next delivery and edged it onto his stumps for a golden duck.
Ian Green then had to come out and stand at the non strikers end for one ball as Doddsy played one away for 4 to finally seal the win for Glens.

Another good team effort with everyone contributing, especially in the field with only 10 men. Special mention to Robert "Bod" Hutchison who despite carrying an injury agreed to turn out for the 3s to ensure they had 11 men. As ever his fielding was top notch.

Nick Diston has since sent grovelling apologies to his skipper via facebook and text and promised to be a good boy for the rest of the season !

Glens take on Largo 3s in a fife Derby next week at St Andrews in a top of the table clash, with the east coast side being the best of the rest in division 8 , and are in fact on a nice little winning run, so it will be a toughie for Glens.
