Match abandoned as Glenrothes 3s looked in mood to knock off the required runs

Glenrothes 3s travelled to Edinburgh on an overcast Saturday, with heavy rain forecast for the start time of 1pm.

Glens skipper Craig Gould won the toss and put Holy Cross into bat.

The game started in light drizzle, which got a wee bit heavier for a while, but with the meadows pitch being surprisingly hard it was coping well, though the wet surface made it a bit hazardous, but not dangerous. Opposing skipper Din gave Gouldy the veto as to whether to stop playing but as the game wore on the drizzle stopped and Gould kept his team on.

To cut a long story short Glens bowled and fielded very well in general, a few misfields and unlucky drops aside they bowled out there opponents for 120 in 35.4 overs.

All bowlers cope fairly well with the conditions and Any McAulay picked up 2 wickets, the first courtesy of a fine catch by wicket keeper Keith Breckinridge, who played well in difficult conditions and the second a fine unplayable delivery to dispatch the last HX wicket . Darren Palmer matched that brace with Brian Morris taking a catch at square leg and a ball which smashed the stumps asunder. Holly Wilkinson, asked to bowl near the end by Gould took 1 wicket for 2 runs with Gould and Brian Morris not taking any wickets but both were very unlucky as several balls missed the stumps by the smallest fraction.
Pick of the Bowlers was Libin Thomas who picked up 5 for 30 and missed a hattrick by 1 ball - taking victims with his 4th and 5th balls of one over and his first of the next.

Fielders Nathan Salt, Ian Green, Farhan Ahmed and George Gawthrop performed admirably in the wet and slippy conditions and Young George took the catch of the day at mid off from Libin's Bowling.

Glens opened with Andy McAulay and Darren Palmer and both looked in the mood and raced onto 19 after 6 overs with Darren in particular being very aggressive , but by this time the rain had restarted and was heavier than before. In the 7th over the conditions claimed a victim when Darren swung and missed at a deliver outside off stump and lost his footing and fell back onto his own stumps.
As Ian Green walked out at Number 3, Gould and his counterpart Din were in discussion and both agreed that on top of the earlier rain , this latest bout would make it dangerous to continue and agreed to abandon the match.

Without the last rain coming I think Glens would have chased down the HX total, though that is supposition on my part and now irrelevant.

Glens have to wait til Sunday this week for there next game at home to Leith Beige, but it is possible that a win could seal promotion and possibly the Div 8 title depending on the outcome of other matches.
