Glenrothes hosted Edinburgh South 3s at Gilvenbank on Saturday. Skipper Craig Gould won the toss and, with the title secured, broke with his tradition of bowling first and decided to bat. He played about a bit with the batting order to give some of the guys who have not had to bat much this year a shot in the middle ( this included himself). Regular openers Andy Muir and Andy McAulay found themselves at 10 and 11 respectively.
To cut a long story short Glenrothes posted 219, with the main scorers being Mark Braid who scored a half century - 65 to be precise, Gouldy with a fine 41, Muhammed Talha scored an elegant 35, Big Brett Wardle a swashbuckling 32 and Andy Muir rounded things off nicely with an unbeaten 22.
Teas were taken and when South ventured out to bat a light drizzle had started, this just got heavier and heavier ( albeit still a drizzle but continuous). With the score on 30 after 13 overs, Gould consulted with the batsmen and the teams came off in the hope the rain would ease. Unfortunately for Glens it didn't and, with South well behind the required run rate, a near certain victory for the home side was denied when the skippers shook hands and decided to call it a day and have a beer.
Ironically as the guys were enjoying a post match drink, the sun reappeared !!
Onwards to next Saturday when Glens host Fife rivals Largo 3s in their last match of the season.
