A cold day in Glenrothes saw people wanting to play cricket fight the elements.

A cold and cloudy afternoon at Gilvenbank saw the 3rd XI take on Teuchters CC in there penultimate league match of the Division 6 season, still looking for a win the team was as ever optimistic. The skipper lost the toss and was asked to bat first.
With some changes in the side and no recognised opening batsmen in the side it was left to Andy Muir and Joe Burton(0) to see if we could get some runs on the board. Unfortunately it did not start well with Joe Burton walking back early and then the skipper(6) did not hang around long before his walk back. Enter Graham Dodds Snr and a style all of his own. Andy and Graham moved along nicely and at drinks 71 for 2 was a reasonable score after some good bowling. Then the heavens opened so an early tea was taken and after an hour break the teams took to the field again. This was the start of another batting collapse. Even with some nice cameos from Callum Glasgow(17) and Brian Morris(18) we could only manage 134 for 9 off 40 overs. Still we had a score on the board and something to defend, hopes were high.

As Teuchters CC and the 3rds took to the field for the second innings Nathan Salt ready to open the bowling with his field set all was good, except the skipper had actually left the match ball in his bag, some quick shouting to those on the sidelines the ball was found and play could get underway.

The on pitch noise was good with the skipper and Dodds Snr leading the chorus and keeping the team positive. However wickets were hard to come by and the Teuchters took the match to the 3rds bowlers and made good progress being 86 for 3 at drinks. They then decided to try and end the game quickly getting the 50 runs they needed in the next 6.3 overs.

So the allusive win that the 3rds were looking for, again eluded us. Still the skipper remains positive and with the last game of the season approaching we will try again and maybe that win will happen.
