Sobering Day with the Bat for Glens 2xi

The true example of a game of 2 halves. Having decided to have a bowl up first the team were happy to head into teas having restricted Holy Cross 2s to 77. By the end of the game, I'm sure the whole team would agree a feeling we will not want to repeat. Gutted.

A lot of effort made by the team to get the game on in the first place, with numerous standing puddles at 9am in the morning following heavy rain the night before.

Then we took to the field full of energy and life, and it shown throughout the whole innings. Jordan and Jay taking the new ball, and in the main bowling a tight line. Jordan bowling well in his 4 overs, but didn't get the reward of a wicket that his bowling deserved. Jay in the main bowling well, as always when on the spot he is unplayable. The pressure from the two openers and in the lively field eventually brought the downfall of Worsnop being run out from a great throw to the keeper from Greg Morris (having used his confusion tactics for both the batsman and fielding team just a few balls before, throwing the ball from point to fine leg, deciding not to aim for anywhere near the wicket). Jay then clean bowling Bates.

Qasim and Greg taking over. Qasim again not getting the reward his bowling deserved wicket wise, but with a tight spell going for just 6 runs in 6 overs. Greg having a great day with the ball, first getting Moore caught behind, and clean bowling K lawrie, A Ojha and S Jahan. On a hatrick at one point, missing the edge by only a few mm which could have led to the hatrick.

Snook doing what Snook does best and reducing our wide count, bowling on the button consistently in his 5 overs, clean bowling Din and going for just 6 runs in 5 overs.

It was great to see Ben Morris getting his first outing this year, bowling solidly. Getting some great turn with his spin, at times unplayable, as shown when Clean Bowling Tantum who missed the movement of the ball before it took his off stump.

Brian and Ali King coming on to clean up, as mentioned on Twitter in his 2 balls Ali King pretty much summed up his cricket career so far, going for a big six having put one too short before getting the wicket of Mehta who was beginning to take it to the Glens having batting the whole innings to that point.

Going back to the start, not only was the bowling tight, keeping Holy Cross in trouble throughout, the fielding was top notch. The noise in the field was great, ensuring a good atmosphere throughout the match. As much as I have to discuss the batting, I would like it remembered if we continue our exploits with out bowling and fielding we will win more games than we lose this year. So far 3 innings in the field and 30 wickets obtained. Cant ask for much more than that.

Now to the point I really wanted to avoid. Our batting performance. This will be short but definitely not sweet.

Lets touch on the good points. Qasim a quick fire 22 up front, as was needed and requested, Ben Morris again looked good, and gained some more experience in adult cricket, and Snook looked solid while at the crease again for his 1. Ok think that's the good points over.

There is no need for finger pointing at this stage, I think as a batting team we could all look at our performance and see where we could have improved and no doubt will next week. I think its safe to say at the end of the game we were all very deflated with the result based on the work we had put in, both getting the game on in the first place, as well as in the field.

But lets say this much, We played a game of cricket in the sunshine. It is always a pleasure to play Holy Cross who play the game in the right spirits. As we discussed at the start of the match, we are playing in a social league and here to enjoy the weekend, whatever the result entails.

So on that note. Onto the next one, hard work in the nets this week ready to go again next Saturday.
