Anti-Vandal Covers Vandalised

Anti-Vandal Covers Vandalised

Eddie Gibbs1 May 2013 - 09:43

When GCC realised we had to purchase pitch covers for CSL promotion we decided that it made sense to purchase the most expensive anti-vandal covers.

The covers, which cost around £8,000 generated from 2 years of hard fund raising; have been with us for 3 weeks now. Following continuous jumping by local youths we see that a panel on one of them has now completely collapsed, would it be wrong to hope that the youngsters hurt themselves when the cover collapsed underneath them?

Coach Steve Rowley spotted some young lads walking between the park and the skateboard ramps who took a liking to jumping on the covers a couple of weeks ago, we'd hoped the novelty would quickly subside but alas not and now an expensive repair is required - probably only for it to happen again.

Given the public location of the covers we deliberately avoided the material or plastic type covers which could have been easily slashed or burned and we've now contacted the supplier to see if they can help strengthen and repair them.

The most frustrating thing of all for us all at Glenrothes CC is that through our Glenrothes Gladiators youth cricket scheme we offer FREE coaching and equipment to local youngsters - we're genuinely an organisation that wants to encourage kids to be be healthy and active but seem only to have our hard work thrown back in our faces.

The matter has been reported to Police Scotland.
