Glenrothes CC recently lost one of its honorary Life Members as Bill Philp passed away at the grand old age of 94.

Bill Philp was a gentleman, he was respectful of his competitors and gracious in both victory and defeat. He served on the Glens committee on a number of occasions and became the clubs first Honorary Life Member.

Bill’s son Gordon commented, “Dad loved cricket and made life long friends. He was a man of few words but as treasurer ensured that every i was dotted and every t crossed.

He joined the Glenrothes 1 year after it was formed, in 1958 when he moved to Glenrothes. He had previously been involved in the formation of Largo Cricket Club which was the village he grew up in.

Dad was a bowler more than a batsman. The highest runs he ever scored (not sure of the total) came about on a Sunday, one day after he had attended a wedding with my Mum on the Saturday night. Dad was not a drinker but at this particular wedding he had taken on a bit more to drink than usual. When he went out to bat he told me he was seeing 3 balls and just hit the middle one.”

All at Glenrothes CC send our condolences to Gordon and all this Philp family at this sad time.
