As you may have read late last year, Chippy shelved his plans to retire from the game. Following his reversal on that decision and discussions amongst the Management Team it was concluded that Chippy would be the ideal candidate to assume the mantle of skipper from Greig, who stepped down from the role at the end of last season.
Chippy commented, "I realise a lot of people may have doubted my commitment to the club during the past couple of seasons; hopefully my decision to take on the captaincy this season will show any doubters that I'm back in the groove and extremely excited by everything that's currently going on at the club."
"When I made the decision to carry on playing I mentioned to the Chairman that I'd love to show my dedication to the club by taking on the role of skipper if the opportunity presented itself, so naturally I was delighted when the call came today. All being well Glenrothes CC will have two strong sides competing in ESCA during the 2012 season and leading our new look 1st XI will be a great honour; I can't wait to get started."
Club Chairman Eddie Gibbs added; "Having Chippy back available to play again was a big plus but now having him back to captain the side is just brilliant news for all at the club. Everyone associated with Glenrothes CC knows that Chippy is one of the clubs best ever players, I'm sure he'll lead by example and the new lads can learn plenty from his skill and experience."
Chippy immediately announced that he was appointing Chris Greaves as his Vice Captain; "Chris showed us a few glimpses of his undoubted talent last season, I'm keen to pass on some of what I've learned over the years and Chris' determination to develop all aspects of his game make him the ideal choice for Vice Captain".
