John Bell Turns 70 - Birthday Wishes to Club Legend

Eddie Gibbs25 Apr 2013 - 08:48

Everyone at Glenrothes CC would like to wish club legend John Bell a Happy 70th Birthday.

The 25th April 2013 marks a special day for all at Glenrothes CC as our clubs longest serving member and legendary player John Bell has reached 70* Not Out!

John was a founder of the club in 1957 at the age of just 14. His dedication to the club over the years has seen him take on the role of Match Secretary 17 times, Club Secretary 3 times and Club President 11 times.

His figures on the field are truly remarkable; with the ball John has taken 1947 wickets in 1st XI at an average of 10.88, a best of 9 for 23 and sits at number 1 in club’s all-time bowling rankings. Whilst with the bat he’s scored 7,691 for the 1st XI at an average of 13.59 with a best of 111 and sits at number 3 in the club’s all-time batting rankings.

This Saturday, John is set to skipper the clubs inaugural match at our new Gilvenbank Park home; where he will lead our new 4th XI team out versus Morton CC as they enter the ESCA league. Given he captained the unbeaten 3rd XI this will mean John has captained all 4 of the clubs senior teams, yet another feat to a long list that it may take some time for anyone else to surpass!

John has also taken on the role of Groundsman in recent years and does a quite remarkable job against rather testing wet conditions. Just last night he was shovelling huge piles of dirt and laying bags of sand on the outfield at the Gilvenbank Park to do whatever he could to get Saturday's game on.

Have a great day John and long may you continue to thrive and we wouldn't bet against you being amongst the leading wicket takers in ESCA for 2013.

John was also the first ever inductee to the Glenrothes CC Hall of Fame in 2012.
