The Gladiators travelled away to St Andrews this Sunday for a Kwik Cricket Festival hosted by Largo CC. The conditions this time round were bright but chilly but this did not slow down the Gladiators who showed a marked improvement in all three cricket disciplines.
The first game was against the strong Largo team who had some strong players that made the difference between the two sides. The Gladiators batted first scoring 246/4 and in response Largo posted 261. Some big hits a few to many extras being the difference.
The second game against Perth Doo'cot, another strong side saw the Gladiators turn the result around. In a low scoring game the Gladiators scored 229/2 but with a strong bowling effort restricted the Perth side to 214. Wickets at crucial times made helped. The Perth side went on to beat Largo.
The final game against Freuchie was an easier game with the opposition missing a few regulars. The Gladiators continued there good bowling effort and took 7 wickets which kept Freuchie to 205. The highlight was young Charlie Burton's caught n' bowled. In response the batsman put on 276/2, smashing it all over the place for the 71 run victory.
Overall the Gladiators have established themselves as a strong junior side, challenging the best teams in Fife. As a coach the team played the matches in good spirits, stayed positive and supported one another. I look forward to this groups continued success and progress through out the summer.
A big thank you to the parents for their support and for giving lifts.
