Our journey to Gilvenbank Park

Glenrothes Cricket Club was formed in 1957 and like many clubs had somewhat of a nomadic existence in its formative years.

Starting out at John Dixon Park in Markinch, then onto Dovecot Park in Glenrothes and Carleton Park (subsequently to be home to Glenrothes Rugby Club) before finally settling at Riverside Park (which many will refer to as Town Park or Hippo Park) in 1970.

That was to prove to be not quite a fully settled home though, as consideration was being given to relocating to the developing Gilvenbank Park in the north of Glenrothes. Despite much preparatory work being undertaken, which the photos of the Gilvenbank Park development in our Gallery show, the club remained at Riverside Park for 44 years in all.

That takes us up to 2014, when the club did eventually move to Gilvenbank Park and from there working in partnership with Glenrothes Athletic Football Club to further develop the sporting facilities in the area with the formation of the as then named Gilvenbank Community Sports Hub - now Glenrothes Community Sports and Health Hub.

So here we are now at Gilvenbank Park, working hard to develop the cricketing facilities and create positive environments for more people to take up cricket. We have a works day on Saturday 1 April to ensure our cricket ground and practice facilities are ready for the season ahead so come along and help!

Otherwise, why not just come along and give cricket ago with us - whether you are a former player with the cricket-itch or a complete beginner, we can give you all the necessary support and equipment to get you going. So just get in touch!
