Grounds Volunteers

Help us to help you

Running the club is something we all care about, and the grounds are a huge part of what makes cricket here enjoyable for all ages. We have though in the past struggled to get enough hands to help with maintenance. That means the same one or two people are often carrying the load, and it’s unsustainable.

We completely understand that everyone has jobs, families, and other commitments - we do too. That’s exactly why we sometimes put out last minute calls for help: because the weather changes, tasks pile up when earlier sessions didn’t get support, or we simply run out of time and energy. Busy and stressful lives are common to us all unfortunately.

What we’re asking for is shared responsibility. Even an hour here or there makes a real difference. When more people pitch in, no one has to sacrifice significant time or take the brunt of it. The club belongs to all of us, and the more we share the work, the more we all get to enjoy it.

We can of course introduce an enforced rota system, but it’s not a magic fix. It changes the psychology of volunteering from “someone else will do it” to “this is my turn”, but it also introduces structure, expectations, and the risk of pushback. So this is about culture change and making sure all members are willing to pitch in.

If you can help, even occasionally, it genuinely matters. Thank you to everyone who already does, and to anyone who can step forward in the weeks and summer ahead.
