Glenrothes made the trip over the Tay Bridge to the Rossie Estate, dodging showers along the way despite a forecast threatening more rain. Instead, bright sunshine set the tone for an enjoyable SPCU Recreational & Development League match played in excellent spirit.
A negotiated toss saw Glenrothes asked to bat first in a 30‑over contest. An early breakthrough from Rossie Priory’s Euan Strickland, who bowled impressively throughout, brought Amol Singh Loomba (24) and Paul Ede (14) together. The pair battled well before their dismissals opened the door for Govind Singh (30) and Samuell Lovett, who added a valuable 52‑run partnership for the fourth wicket.
Late in the innings, Shaun “The Anchorman” Rowcliffe showed determination in protecting his wicket, though partners fell around him, and Glenrothes were eventually bowled out for 130.
Rossie Priory began their reply with their experienced opening pair, Keir Doe and Raymond Lynch, who negotiated disciplined Glenrothes bowling with patience before growing in confidence. The fifty came up in the 16th over, after which Lynch retired on 23, soon followed by Doe on 37.
That left Rossie’s talented youngsters to push toward victory, and with Matthew Swinney and Hamish Stephens at the crease, the chase looked on track. But the match swung again thanks to Shaun Rowcliffe, who seized his moment with the ball. He trapped Stephens LBW for 12, then removed Finlay Brough, brilliantly caught by Paul Ede.
Young Muhammad Saim added a composed run‑out to the scorebook, helping Glenrothes tighten the screws. Rossie Priory finished on 123 for 3, seven runs short after their 30 overs.
A superb match played in the best R&D spirit — Glenrothes thank Rossie Priory for their warm hospitality and for the weather’s unexpected kindness.
