Glenrothes XI 187 a/o v 112 a/o Meigle XI

A Glenrothes XI travelled to Meigle on Sunday for the latest round of the SPCU Recreational & Development League - a fixture unexpectedly extended to 40 overs per side after both captains agreed conditions were good enough for a longer game.

Meigle skipper Oliver Nicol won the rock‑paper‑scissors toss and chose to bowl first, a decision that paid off early. Glenrothes’ club-wide recurring issue - big shots played to straight balls - combined with a pitch offering variable bounce, saw early wickets tumble.

A brisk 14 from Karthik Coppisetty hinted at momentum but ended too soon. The innings stabilised thanks to senior batter Sufyan Ahmed, who played with control and patience before retiring on 50, giving Glenrothes the platform they badly needed.

The lower order then added crucial runs, with teenagers Anas Tanveer (31)* and Ben Krzyzanowski (22) lifting the total further. Their partnership injected energy into the innings and pushed Glenrothes to a competitive 187 all out.

Skipper Rahman Tawheedi opened the bowling alongside guest player Brian Russell. Russell’s trademark outswing kept things tight, while Tawheedi - bowling a touch short at times - still found reward when Douglas (13) skied a catch to Anas Tanveer.

Meigle’s No. 3 Boyer looked to attack from the outset, but Glenrothes were delighted to see him return to the pavilion when Coppisetty trapped him LBW for 12. Young opener Bruce also looked composed, but after reaching double figures he was bowled by Wahab Tawheedi.

From there, Glenrothes controlled the innings. Wickets fell steadily, pressure built, and debutant Qamar Ilyas finished the job in style, taking two wickets to wrap up the innings as Meigle were dismissed for 112.

A big thank‑you to Meigle for their hospitality - and for the excellent teas, which were very much appreciated.
