After a 2 hour delay due to heavy rain play eventually started at 2pm with skipper Greig Hopcroft winning the toss and electing to bat first. The match was reduced to 35 overs per side.
New opening partnership Greig Hopcroft and Chris Greaves made a brisk start and managed to dispatch the bad balls to the boundary. They managed to put on 43 runs before Hopcroft chased a wide delivery and was caught for 16.
Greaves and Robbie Wright continued to plug away and put the bad balls away as well as picking up the odd single. Wright (bowled) and the debutant Haps Pal (18) were assisted by Jordan Davidson (9), Guy Robinson (10*) and Shane Munro (10*) all contributed towards the end of the innings. Main contributor to the innings was the in-form Chris Greaves with a magnificent 59 runs.
Glens finishing with 169 for 6 from their 35 overs.
In reply the bowling started very well, giving away very little with Penicuik only managing 23 for the loss of 1 wicket from the 1st 10 overs. Darren Lewis and Kenny Crichton bowled some superb stuff which the batsmen couldn't get near too!
Whilst not taking many wickets, the Glens bowlers generally managed to keep the bowling tight and gave away very little. Special mention also to Steve Rowley who bowled 6 overs at the death going for only 9 runs in the process, but also managing to take 3 vital wickets in the process.
The match went right down to the very last over, with Penicuik needing 11 runs to win from the last over. Kenny Crichton bowled the over and he managed to take the final wicket of the match to clinch victory for Glenrothes with a good catch in the deep from Shane Munro.
Glenrothes get off to a winning league start, two home games up next against Forfarshire and RHC Costorphine.
