Glenrothes CC 1st XI made their 1st ever league trip to Forthill to take on Forfarshire in CSL East Championship action last Saturday.

Skipper Greig Hopcroft lost the toss and Glenrothes were asked to bowl first on a lovely looking pitch.

Facing up to two Scottish internationals was a new challenge for the Glens bowlers and they seemed to take to it ok keeping Forfs to 4 per over for the 1st 8 overs, however Wallace then decided to press the accelerator pedal and began playing some classic shots - the 100 partnership coming up in the 20th over. Wallace was 1st to go with Robbie Wright having him caught for a well made 60. Scott Galloway was next to the crease, however he only lasted the one ball before he was caught by Greaves off the bowling of Wright.

This brought the experienced Gardner to the crease, he along with Parker then put on 96 runs for the 3rd wicket with Parker bowled for 75 by Kenny Crichton. The score was now 211 for 3 from 41 overs. However, this then brought the explosive Bailwal to the crease, he proceeded to hit 63 runs from only 34 balls, with Garden at the other end finishing with 72 not out. Forfarshire made a commanding 299 for 3 from their 50 overs.

In reply skipper Greig Hopcroft opened with Robbie Wright, however Wright was making his way back to the pavilion in the 2nd over, having only faced 3 balls. Greaves joined the skipper and the pair tried to settle things down, before Greaves was given out LBW despite the umpire calling not out interesting indeed! Hopcroft was next to go for 14, before the collapse really began. Glens only managing a miserly 48 runs from the 17 overs faced.

A very dissapointing performance in what was a top of the table clash, however the gulf between the two sides was evident and the most horrifying thing was the lack of competing against them. Glenrothes seemed to just crumble and folded over.

They must look to bounce back next week when they travel to Edinburgh to take on Corstorphine on Sunday.
