Glens Lose Final Home Match to Rivals
Glenrothes CC played host to local rivals Falkland CC in the CSL Championship last Saturday.
In the final home match of 2013 skipper Hopcroft won the toss and elected to bowl first.
Openers Kenny Crichton and Darren Bremner started off well restricting the opening pair with the swinging ball. The first wicket fell with the score on just 11. Some good scoring by the Falkland middle order increased the score with Bremner 3-31 and Watson 3-24 the pick of the Glenrothes bowlers. South African Lockyer managed to get to a half-century and Falkland managed 212 all out from 48 overs.
In reply Hopcroft and Chris Greaves put on 40 runs in the opening 10 overs without losing a wicket, however a change of bowler saw Hopcroft back in the pavilion for 11 runs.
Greaves continued to play some excellent shots and brought up his half century. A couple of wickets changed the flow but Watson and Greaves continued to look in control and swung the match back in favour of the home side. However the wicket of Greaves was to prove pivotal, making a well made 85 runs. When watson fell for 36 Glens were up against it and falling behind the rate.
12 runs short in the chase, so near yet so far. Rather dissapointing result, especially with 30 extras which was yet again a factor in the defeat for Glenrothes.
Next week sees the final match of the inaugural season in the CSL with another local derby and a visit to Freuchie.
