Glenrothes CC 1st XI made the short trip to take on local rivals Freuchie in the final match of the first season in the CSL setup.

Skipper Greig Hopcroft lost the toss and Glens were asked to bowl first.

However Freuchie lost their first wicket in only the 1st over when Kahlil was bowled by Darren Bremner. Freuchie then consoldated pretty well with Jackson and Robbie Birrell who took the score to 61 in the 20th over before Jackson was next out caught by Ian Dale off the bowling of Jordan Davidson. Birrell was to follow just 3 balls later this time caught by Richard Evason off the bowling of Darren Lewis, 61-3 now.
Scott Gourlay and Scott Birrell began to once again consolodate, however when Gourlay fell LBW to Davidson the wickets began to tumble all around Scott Birrell. He made an excellent 63 not out and Freuchie ended on 184 for 9 at the end of their 50 overs. Bremner (3-32), Lewis (1-22 from 9), Crichton (0-35 from 12) and Davidson (1-25) were the pick of the bowlers but it was an all round good effort in the field.

Following tea a new opening partnership was sent to the crease with Richard Evason joining Chris Greaves with Skipper Hopcroft nursing a bad knee to go with the fractured wrist from last weeks game. The two made an excellent start bring up the 50 partnership in only the 10th over, before Evason changed his mind on a shot and was bowled by Gourlay for 14.
Little did we know that was to be the last wicket of the day!! Robbie Wright joined Greaves and the two batted quite majestically with Greaves bringing up his first league ton of the year and Wright hitting his maiden league 50 for Glenrothes. A 137 run 2nd wicket partnership saw Glenrothes win by 9 wickets in only 34 overs. Greaves 107 not out and Wright 58 not out.

An excellent victory which sees Glenrothes finish 3rd in their 1st season in CSL which is an excellent achievement for the pre-season underdogs.

A big thanks goes to each and every player who has taken to the field this year.
Also a big thanks to the forgotten lady, Lesley Davidson who has done a sterling job for the team and has been at every game scoring the book, thanks Lesley.
