Glenrothes 1st XI made there way through to Uddingston CC on Saturday for their first game in the 2013 Scottish Cup.
After a long journey to Glasgow, the Glenrothes troops had a solid warm up and were very excited for the Scottish Cup to begin. Glenrothes skipper Greig Hoproft won the toss and sent the home side in to bat. Jordan Davidson and Darren Lewis with the new pink ball to start things off for Glenrothes.
With the pitch being soft after some wet conditions, things were hard for the Glenrothes bowlers and finding the right line and length was hard work. The Uddingston batsmen took full advantage of the inconsistent line and length from all bowlers. Glenrothes had an early missed chance with Steve Rowley dropping Derek Allan on 3, who went on with Amir Gul and scored to all parts of the ground. It wasn't until Rowley was brought in to the attack that Glenrothes got back in to the game, slowing things down real quickly so to speak, with some of his great slow deceptive bowling; with the help of debutant Robbie Wright at the other end with his left arm orthodox bowling. With some pressure back on the home side, it caused some confusion in the middle, new boy Shane Munro running out Allan.
Glenrothes got some control back, keeping the run rate down to 5 per over and taking the odd wicket. Uddingston took control back though when Scotland international batsman Calum MacLeod walked to the crease with Gul still at the wicket. Both found it easy to score and led Uddingston to a comfortable total of 319/7.
After a bite to eat the injury scares around the team, caused a few changes to the Glenrothes batting line up. Debutants Musti Beg and Robbie Wright headed out to the wicket to start the fight back. They formed a solid start of 24 before Beg was dismissed LBW for 11 off Bawa. Wright fell next as he spooned a dolly to short leg for 8.
Chris Greaves and Steve Rowley steadied the ship with a partnership of 53 until Greaves (25) was bowled. Wickets started to crumble with Jordan Davidson (0) to what looked a harsh LBW from the pavilion; followed by Farooq Khan (8) and Steve Rowley (25) falling in quick concession. Shane Munro (6) and
Kenny Crichton (12) managed to stay at the wicket for a while moving the score onto 129, before both got dismissed.
The injury inhibited pair of Greig Hopcroft and Alec Davies were the last 2 men and moved the score to 153 before the skipper was bowled by Vasu Reddy. Davies (9) not out.
Uddingston CC won by 163 runs. The Glens must now get the heads up for another long trip to Aberdeenshire CC next week, with Ryan Watson set to make his first appearance of the season to boost the team.
