Glenrothes 1st XI continued their unbeaten run in the league with a very convincing win at Grange Cricket Club, the home ground of the national team. After heavy rain in Fife, Glenrothes were stunned to show up and see there had only been a bit of rain overnight and that the wicket was by far the best wicket they had played on this year.
Glenrothes lost the toss and were asked to bowl. The match started just as it has every week so far with very good showings from Graeme Beghin and Kenneth Crichton. there were 3 early wickets leaving the hosts 25/3. Graeme with 2 and Kenny with 1. This put Grange under pressure quickly and Glenrothes capitalised when Fraser Gosse came on to bowl and picked up his first of 2 wickets, Grange were 34/4 and looking like struggling to make 100. Fortunately they found a couple partnerships and managed to get to 132/8 off there 50 overs with some tight bowling from everyone who bowled especially Scott Lucas who's 10 overs went for 17 runs. The wickets being shared by Beghin with 3, Kenny with 1, Chris Greaves with 2 and Fraser with 2. It has to be said this total could have been a lot less but there were a few dropped catches and missed run out chances.
Batting and Glenrothes made light work of it hitting the total in 26.4 overs. Greig Hopcroft and Graeme Beghin opened up and started quickly racing to 28 off 5 overs before Hopcroft was bowled for 7. This brought skipper Greaves in hungry for some runs and was looking very nice till he was given LBW for 15 with the score on 53. This was the last wicket to fall as Ben Wilkinson came in and along with Beghin hammered the Grange bowling attack all over the park with Beghin finishing 66 not out and Wilkinson 37 not out. A very good partnership and solid batting display from Glenrothes.
