Glens Kick Off 2014 Season With A Very Convincing Win At Perth Doocot

Glenrothes 1st XI made the trip up to Perth Doocot for the first pre-season match.

Skipper C.Greaves won the toss and elected to bat first.

The pitch that was pretty soft and was always going to be a tough but good task with lots of discipline and good shot selection. The oversea's G.Beghin making his club debut opening the batting with G.Hopcroft. With the ball doing a few things on the sticky deck, the openers got of to a solid start until G.Beghin (9) skied a full toss to mid-on. Skipper C.Greaves was in at 3 and made a good start with G.Hopcroft scoring to all parts of the field. Next to go was G.Hopfroft (10) as he chopped it on his stumps. B.Wilkinson making his debut looked comfortable and was sweetly timing the ball to all parts of the field. C.Greaves and B.Wilkinson scoring pretty freely brining up the 50 up after 10 overs. B.Wilkinson skied a ball that stopped on him to mid-on bringing G.Robinson to the crease to join C.Greaves. Things were ticking along nicely with C.Greaves brining up his fifty and looking good to go on. C.Greaves (55) retired not out. S.Munro joining G.Robinson which was short lived as G.Robinson was trapped LBW. F.Gosse (30) also making his club debut took his time and batted really well as he put a great partnership up with S.munro (27) pushing the score to 170.With the Glens pushing there score to 194 on a soft and tricky track after 40 overs.

With all the bowlers warmed up the Glens took the field. J.Davidson(5-0-3) from one end and K.Crichton(6-3-18) from the other. Both openers started well as they both restricted Perth from scoring freely. With all bowlers hitting there spots keeping things tight and easy for skipper C.Greaves to set the field. G.Beghin (5-1-15) with all his runs being scored behind square. F.Gosse(6-1-13) who bowled very tightly and hit his areas. S.Lucas (5-1-4) making his debut looked ver comfortable and in great rhythm and had a great partnership with S.Munro(4-1-14) who also bowled his area's making things hard to score, cleaning up the tale.

Skipper C.Greaves: With the Glens having such a young but very enthusiastic side, they looked really sharp in the field and ready for a good season. It is great to have such depth to work with.
