Glenrothes 1st XI win opening game of season with convincing 10 wicket win over penicuik.

GCC skipper Robbie Wright won the toss and decided to bowl, Kenny Crichton and club pro Rizwan Akbar opened the bowling and got off to a solid start with Kenny picking up an LBW early on and Rizwan Akbar bowling his first spell of 3 overs for 3 maidens. Robbie Wright came on next and along with Kenny kept it tight with Penicuik struggling to find runs with only 30 runs after 15 overs. Kenny finished his spell ending with 1/21 off 7 overs, There could have been a couple more wickets for Kenny but for 2 dropped catches in the slips. Vasu Reddy and Scott Lucas were next to bowl and both bowled excellent picking up a wicket each. at drinks GCC were on top with Penicuik 57/3 after 25 overs. Chris Greaves came on to bowl in the 33rd over and ended up being the star picking up 5/32 off 9 overs with the opposition struggling to pick up his quicker ball, Rizwan came back on at the end to get his first league wicket for GCC and Penicuik ended on 160.

After drinks GCC were confident of a good solid chase and so it proved with openers Chris Greaves and Ben Wilkinson getting off to a quick start pushing on to 23 off 3 overs. this quick start continued and soon the bowlers were being dispatched all round the wicket with Chris Greaves in particular being ruthless to any loose bowling, he soon passed his 50 but that wasn't the end for him as he hit the winning runs with a 4 which ended up being his 100. Ben Wilkinson also passed 50 the over before and ended on 50* supporting Chris very well in what was a great stand of 161 of 26 overs. It was the perfect batting display with neither giving away any chances or ever looking on trouble.

It was a great start for GCC with some very solid ground fielding from the whole team. Man of the Match was obviously Chris Greaves who got of to a great start with a five-for and his first hundred of the season.

Hopefully the same next week where GCC have 2 games both at home, Marchmont in the league on Saturday and Meigle in the scopttish cup on Sunday.
