Glenrothes beat Grange in very close encounter.

On a wet day at Gilvenbank it looked as if play might not be possible with the weather overnight but with lots of hard work from players and ground staff the game got started at 12.30 with a 45 over game to be played.

GCC batted first and from the off it looked like it was going to be a tough wicket to bat on and so it proved. Ben Wilkinson was the first to go unfortunately for a duck in the second over. Vasu Reddy was next in and looked to consolidate. Again more balls keeping low and the wicket proving very difficult to bat on with the score only 19/1 after 10. Chris Greaves was trying to push the score along before getting a leading edge to be caught and bowled for 10. Captain Robbie Wright came in and was lucky not to be given LBW first ball as he attempted to leave a ball which struck him in the pads. only a few overs later he was caught for 6 soon followed by Vasu for 14 score now 33/4. Fred Culley and Fraser Gosse were the two new batsman, very good friends from Kinross and having played with each other for years it sure showed as they seemed to know each other well knowing exactly what they could run and keeping a watchful eye on the wicket. they had pushed the score on nicely to 57 before Fred was bowled for a score of 16, GCC's highest score of the match, he was soon followed by Fraser for 9. Shane Munro and Alec Davies in now and both looking very nicely and treating the wicket with the respect it deserved. again 2 quick wickets fell with Alec LBW for 13 then next over Shane Munro missed a low full toss to be given LBW for 7. the tale wagged and fortunately Kenny and Scott Lucas stuck about and got the total up to 98 with Scott Lucas 11 not out.

GCC were confident they could defend this total but it didn't start well with Kenny and Rizwan not picking up a wicket in the first spell, GCC still knew 1 wicket could be the catalyst and Robbie brought Chris Greaves and Vasu on, all 4 bowlers keeping it very tight and economical but no luck with taking wickets with loads of shots in the air falling short of fielders. Grange soon moved onto 55/0 off 22 overs and looking like coasting to victory. Robbie Wright then brought himself onto bowl and in his second over bowled one of the grange openers for 39. Drinks were then taken and Robbie brought on GCC Pro Rizwan on to bowl and it seemed to be a good decision as he picked up 3 quick wickets to leave Grange 63/4. Glenrothes definatly back in the game. After Robbie had finished his 9 overs straight and Rizwan his spell it was upto Chris Greaves and Vasu to come back on. Greaves picked up the next wicket to leave Grange 83/5 with Grange scoring so slow since drinks pressure was always on them and it soon proved with Vasu picking up another quick couple wickets 1 bowled and another LBW. GCC really believing now with Grange 86/7.Chris's spell was now over so time for Kenny Crichton to come back on and straight away the number 9 batsman hit the ball straight in the air for Fred Culley to take a catch. score now 87/8 and with only 11 needed GCC knew they needed to put pressure on, the field was brought in, the dot balls accumulating and the batsman decided enough was enough and tried to run a quick single but Robbie fielding at midwicket fired the ball in for Alec to take off the bails 88/9. end of the over and 2 overs left 11 runs needed. Kenny Crichton bowled his first ball and the batsman scampered a single. 10 needed of 11. Field in tight again and the next ball struck the batsman infront of the pads to which the whole GCC team roared and the batsman was given out LBW

A Great win for GCC under great pressure and it showed how together the team is with an excellent fielding display and real Team spirit to not let the heads drop.
