Unfortunatly it was a rainy start to Saturday and when the GCC boys turned up at Freuchie for our locl derby it was looking in doubt, consistent light rain and no sign of it easing off. Thankfully with some work from the groundstaff we got started at 1pm for a 40 over match.
Freuchie won the toss and batted first and looked comfortable ticking along with 1s and 2s, this was fine with GCC as the run rate in the first 6 overs was less than 2 an over. Kenny Crichton got the first wicket in the 8th over having K Khalil LBW. Robbie came on next to bowl and seemed to find a good line and length but seemed to be a 4 ball at the end of his overs which Robbie Birrell dispatched for 4 everytime. Kenny Bowled right through finishing with figures of 1/12 off 8. Robbie then took himself off and brought on 2 new bowlers in Hudson and Culley the change seemed to work as Krishna was out in Hudsons se.cond over caught at Gulley and Birrell out bowled by Fred Culley for 38 the score now 62/3 off 22 overs. The professional K daud was the next batsman in to join the aggressive A Naeem, so Robbie brought back on Rizwan for a 2 over spell and it worked picking up the Pro bowled for 3. Hudson was back on to bowl aswell as the introduction of Scott Lucas, Naeem seemed to take a liken to Lucas hitting him over the top a few times for 4 over extra cover. G Hudson got the next breakthrough having Hussain caught behind for 16 then the next batsman bowled for 0 to finish with figures of 3/26. Rizwan came back on at the end of the innings and in the first over picked up the wicket of Naeem for 46 caught at long off by Vasu Reddy which was the first wicket of his first ever hattrick for GCC the net wicket being bowled and then the third being caught at slip by G Hudson, Score now 137/9. Chris Greaves got the last wicket bowled to leave Freuchie all out for 142.
The 2 GCC opener came out to bat and for the third time this season and second game in a row Glenrothes had a 10 wicket win. Both batsman attacked from the start with Greaves hitting 10 in the first over. all through the innings there was boundarys everywhere. With 11 to win Greaves needed 12 for his hundred but unfortunately fell just short hitting 98 not out in 78 balls with Fred Culley batting very well at the other end to finish 39 not out off 46 deliverys. The innings finishing after 21.4 overs and the 2 looking like they could have batted all day.
A Great win for GCC and next week see's us welcome second place Carlton 2s to Gilvenbank in what should be a good game in which hopefully we can maintain our unbeaten record.
