Glenrothes beat Carlton 2s to finish first half of season unbeaten.

For the first time in many years the whole first half of the season has been played with no games called off for rain. Glenrothes came up against second place Carlton 2s in their final game of the half knowing a win would create a good gap at the top of the table.

Glenrothes lost the toss and were put in to bat first. GCC got off to the worst start with Fred Culley getting caught at Gulley in the first over, Guy Robinson went in to bat next and was soon out LBW, GCC now 8/2 from 5 overs. Robbie Wright came in next and along with Chris started to try rebuild the innings until Robbie was given out LBW for 11 soon followed by Greaves bowled for 13 and GCC in real trouble at 35/4. Fraser Gosse and Vasu Reddy were the 2 batsman at the crease and decided the best way to get us out of trouble was to attack and done a great job with boundarys coming all over the park, Vasu went for one shot too many off the young spinner and was bowled for 27.score now 93/5, another 2 quick wickets in Dodds and Braid meant GCC were now in real trouble with the score 99/7, in came Rizwan Akbar to join Gosse and started nurdling the ball around well until Gosse was bowled for 40 then Lucas caught for 0. 116/9 and Alec Davies walked out to the crease, Rizwan then decided to tea off and the pair just kept batting and batting with Rizwan hitting boundarys and Alec seeing out the overs. Rizwan was last out for 44.156 all out, a defendable total giving the position we were in.

Rizwan and Robbie opened the bowling and started well Robbie taking Kennys place and doing a good job getting some nice swing as well as the first wicket. both were getting very frustrated as both were too good for the batsman to get bat on ball with atleast half the deliverys in the first 8 overs being play and missed. Rizwan got the second wicket before Vasu Reddy came on and took 2 important wickets to leave Carlton 37/4 with GCC well on top. Lucas and Greaves were next on to bowl and kept things very tight putting loads of pressure on Carlton. Lucas getting the next 2 wickets bowled and caught and bowled with Carlton now 87/6. Rizwan came back on for a 2 over spell and picked up the next wicket but then a partnership formed and took them to 139/7 needing 17 off 3 overs so a game too close to call. Robbie got the next wicket with a run out which then lead to Rizwan picking up the next 2 wickets in 3 balls to finish with figures of 4/11.
