Glenrothes crowned Champions of ESCA Championship after win over SMRH.

Glenrothes have been crowned chamions of the ESCA championship after beating nearest challengers SMRH by 6 wickets with over 5 overs to spare.

SMRH won the toss and decided to bat first and got of to a great start reaching 30 without loss. Rizan finished his first spell wicketless and change made the difference with Robbie Wright picking up the first wicket bowling the opening batsman around his legs. A bowling change at the other end brought the second wicket with Guy Hudson getting an LBW. 42/2. This brought SMRH star batsman in Brad Moses who early on had a shaky start with numerous play and misses of both Robbie and Guy. in his 6th over Robbie picked up his second wicket with a nice catch by Fraser Gosse at cover. a Small partnership started to build but Rizwan came back on and got the key man Mosses LBW before Greaves got another wicket next over. only 2 overs later and Rizwan picked up another 2 wickets to leave SMRH in real trouble at 102/7. unfortunately the last 3 wickets wagged and SMRH got to 181/9 off their 50 overs Rizwan picking up 4 wickets in the innings to take him to 47 for the season.

A decent total which was going to be an even harder chase with Ben Wilkinson unable to bat due to a side injury while bowling, none the less GCC were confident of chasing the total and winning the league. They got off to a good start with both Greaves and Culley taking the score to 27/0 off 8 before Fred was bowled for 10/ Fraser Gosse was the new batsman who looked in good touch assisting Greeaves but unfortunately with the score on 69 he as caught for 14. Rizwan was the new number 4 batsman and looked in great touch and along with Chris Greaves scored quickly putting away the bad balls. Chris soon brought up his 50 and it looked like these 2 were going to lead GCC over the line but then Rizwan was caught by a good catch at midwicket for 39 and soon followed by Vasu run out to leave GCC 18/4 off 32 overs. with 44 still needed captain Robbie Wright came out and SMRH were straight on to him trying to talk him out the game. unfazed Robbie and Chris kept it going hitting the bad balls and taking singles to tick the score along. everyrun as cheered by the GCC support as they realised how close they were getting and with 1 run needed a short ball was pulled away for 6 by Robbie which brought celebrations among the GCC players. Chris a very well earned 80* and Robbie 25*.

2 games still to play for GCC but with the league won all eyes will be on the play off which we need to win the gain promotion to the Eastern Premiership.
