Glens Win Tight Fife Derby
By Ali King
After a victory over reigning champions Carlton in week one, Glenrothes made the short trip to Scroggie Park to face Falkland in their first away game of the year. Making just one change to the previous weeks team captain Safyaan Sharif won the toss and elected to bat.
After a tremendous opening partnership the previous week the Glens hoped to get off to a similar start but tight economical bowling from Falkland saw the top order lose wickets at regular intervals with only Safyaan making a real impact before being dismissed for 37. Jamie Penman (46) and Yasar Arafat (27) added a much needed 58 for the 9th wicket before the Glens closed their innings on 192 all out.
Defending 192 was always going to be a hard task for the glens and they knew they would require something special in their defence. They got this from Vasu Reddy who claimed 4/16 including dismantling the Falkland top order from 67-1 to 69-4. Aidan Justus and Ben Wilkinson also claimed 2 wickets each as the visitors won by 21 runs.
Elsewhere the 2nd XI fell to Murrayfield DAFS at home, the 3rd XI lost to a strong Holy Cross side and the Sunday Development XI lost to Falkland.
