Glenrothes 1st XI made the short trip to Freuchie on Saturday with the weather forecast not looking very promising.

Just as the Glens started arriving the weather also started to turn as per the forecast. So it was with this in mind that the 2 captains decided to proceed with the match but they reduced it to 20 overs per side, rather than the normal 45 overs per side.

Skipper Greig Hopcroft once again (every match this season) lost the toss and Glenrothes were asked to bat first.

36 runs had been scored by the 5th over when Harry Fry fell victim to a slower delivery, Ian Dale joined Hopcroft at the crease and the pair took the score to 65 in the 10th over when Hopcroft was "stumped" following a kick of the ball by the wicket-keeper for a well constructed 32 with some nice shots played.

Chippy Dale and Greg Morris continued the run scoring and some good boundary shots with the singles to keep the scoreboard ticking over. The score had moved to 103 when Dale was next to go for 29. When Greg Morris went for 21 in the 15th over the collapse began going from 104 for 3 to 116 for 7. Some good batting by Jordan Smith down the order along with Sumit Singh got the score up to 126 from the allotted 20 overs.

In reply Freuchie got off to a steady start with the score reaching 30 in the 6th over before Dale removed opener Glen and then skipper Mackay 1st ball in the same over. Jordan Smith, making his 1st XI debut, bowled with excellent control and finished with 1 for 15 from his 4 overs. Some nice tight bowling in the middle of the innings restricted Freuchie to 46 for 3 from 12 overs - thus meaning they required 81 from the last 8 overs at just over 10 per over. Young Ben Morris was the pick of the bowlers giving only 5 runs up from his 1st 3 overs bowled. The experienced Hopcroft and Dale bowled the last 4 overs for only 29 runs to see Glens home by 7 runs.

A good win in a game played in good spirits with light/moderate rain throughout.

Next weeks sees another away trip, this time up to St Andrews University.
