Uni Staff 236-6 v 235-9 Glenrothes

The second game of a double-header at Gilvenbank Park on Saturday 10th July saw Glenrothes 1st XI take on St Andrews Uni Staff on the Bell Oval in the Breedon Strathmore and Perthshire Cricket Union (SPCU) Division 1.

The Uni Staff team batted first, with their innings underpinned by a fantastic 116 not out to opener McLennan. With six wickets shared across five bowlers, best bowling coming from Jordan Smith with two for 28 from nine overs, Glenrothes will have felt they were always in the game. But a mid-innings 48 from Earnshaw helped push the visitors on, to finish on 236 for six from 45 overs.

Andy Mudie, looking to continue his ridiculously hot batting streak, opened but lost a number of wickets around him. Good support first of all from Greg Morris (14) and then Ani Apparaju (25) helped push the score on though with Mudie dismissed for 116 (fourth century of the season), it wasn't looking great for Glenrothes. But Chris Marshman, demoting himself (as skipper) to a very low number 10, was able to bat with confidence and strike some indifferent bowling to many parts of the ground. With the number of balls left diminishing he managed the strike well to take the game to the last ball with a 6 needed to win - he was able to get across the boundary line, but not before the ball bounced first. His despondency reflecting the last ball defeat by just one run.

Many thanks to St Andrews Uni Staff for a great game.
