Perth Doo'cot 2s 203-8 v 138 a/o Glenrothes

Glenrothes welcomed Perth Doo’cot 2nd XI back to Gilvenbank Park for the second time in three days, having lost in the 2 Counties Cup.

Having won the toss, Captain Chris Marshman would ask Perth to bat first, trusting his bowlers to keep Perth to a chaseable total.

Opening bowlers Jay Lewis and Nathan Salt started well keeping the run rate low and restricting Perth to 24 from their first eight overs. However, it was the change bowling of Marshman and Mayank Sautiyal that would bring the first wickets.

Marshman was first to strike, dismissing opposite number Ferguson (13) for the second time in a week, while Sautiyal would dismiss Chalmers (17) thanks to a neat catch from Paul Culleton behind the stumps.

Perth would then rebuild for a period, reaching 80 for 2 from 22 overs before the introduction of Qasim Ahmad would see Murray (32) dismissed, caught by Sufyan Ahmed. The reintroduction of opener Lewis would also see Armstrong (22) dismissed by a wonderful one-handed catch from Ahmad.

Not content with his fielding heroics, Ahmad would then go on to bowl an incredible spell, taking a further 4 wickets for only 8 runs in the space of 4 overs and finishing with excellent figures of 5 for 25 from his 9 overs.

Perth had continued to build their score through some lusty blows however and would finish on 203 for 8 from their 45 overs, led by a good 31* from Riley and some late hitting from Emslie (21*). Unfortunately, Glenrothes will need to reflect once more on the number of extras given away (25) as this would prove to be Perth’s fourth highest “scorer”.

It was to be a new look opening partnership for Glenrothes with Marshman and Lewis taking to the crease. Lewis would soon fall to a good ball from Ahuja which would bring Salt to the crease.

What followed was some brutal hitting from Salt, who would go on to finish as the top scorer with 65 with some particularly impressive offside 6’s. Marshman though was second wicket to fall for 26, caught off the bowling of Patterson, having never quite got going.

At this point, Glenrothes were 56 for 2 from 13 overs and looking like the score would be well within their reach. However, what followed can only be described as a shocking batting collapse. Mark Braid would be bowled by Hill for 2 before Ahmed would follow him for a duck. This brought Reyon Thomas to the crease who would be involved in two run outs, firstly that of Salt, before running himself out for 3.

Ani Apparaju’s return to the team would only see a duck, as he was bowled by Hill before Sautiyal’s stay at the crease would end as he was caught by Ferguson from Hill’s bowling for 5.

Ahmad would try to see Glenrothes reach some sort of score but would end up stranded on 19* as Joe Burton would be stumped from the bowling of McDermott before the injured Culleton was bowled by the returning Emslie for 6. Finishing on 138 all out, Glenrothes will have to ensure that when they perform well in the first half of the game, they must back this up rather than letting promising positions slip out of their hands.
