Largo 2s 99 a/o v 100-1 Glenrothes

Glenrothes made the short journey to Upper Largo on Saturday 1st July to play their sixth league match of the season on a very windy day.

Glen’s skipper Qasim Ahmad won the toss and decided to bowl first, which at first seemed like a bad idea as Largo 2 has raced away to 40 runs after 4 overs - Largo opener Hasan scoring heavily.

Things changed in the fifth over when Bimal Nalupurakkal Balan clean bowled Hasan and the run rate dropped, eventually the whole team getting out at 99 which was a remarkable bowling turnaround.

Highlight of the bowling was a fantastic 8 over spell for 23 runs only and taking two wickets which was bowled by Haps Pal playing his first match after coming out of retirement. Young Anas Tanveer also had a great day with the bowl taking three wickets in 4fourovers and conceding only two runs. All others bowled well, only negative from the bowling was the injury to Kevin Le Roux where he suffered a calf strain, and it could potentially keep him out of playing cricket for couple of weeks.

Saim Tayyiub the young Glenrothes Gladiator from the travelling support stepped in for Kevin after his injury and provided a very able fielding support to ensure 11 people on the field. Sufyan the makeshift keeper in the absence of regular wicket keeper Paul Culleton stepped in well
and supported the bowlers.

Glens responded with the bat very positively and had their best opening stand of the league season of 76 before Haps Pal fell on 40 runs. Young Muhammad Tayyiub also scored his highest score of the league so far with 29 not out. Bimul at number 3 also played his best innings of the league so far scoring 20 runs with three huge sixes.

Overall, a good game from which both teams will have taken many positives in giving players valuable batting and bowling time in the middle. Many thanks to Largo 2 for hosting us so well, and we look forward to meeting up again at Gilvenbank Park.
