Glenrothes 1st XI welcomed Kinloch 3rd XI to Gilvenbank Park on Sunday 16th July, for the Breedon Strathmore and Perthshire Cricket Union (SPCU) Division 2 match which had already been rescheduled twice due to rain. Both teams were keen for a game so made every
effort possible for this, thanks to Kinloch for their commitment.
Glen’s captain Qasim Ahmad won the toss and decided to bat first. Glens made a good start with the bat, playing positive cricket before Rahman struck and clean bowled Haps Pal for 19 runs.
After the first wicket fell the scoring rate dropped a little with Bimal Nalupurrakal Balan and Muhammad Tayyiub looking to consolidate the innings, it all changed when Balan (14) and Tayyiub (5) departed in quick succession, bringing the danger batters Mayank Sautiyal and Sufyan Ahmad together at the crease.
They put together a 78 run partnership while scoring the runs quickly, but it was to be Sufyan to fall for 34, to be replaced by Qasim Ahmad. The second 50 runs partnership between Sautiyal and an Ahmad in the game was broken though, as Mayank eventually fell
on 90, which he scored from only 58 balls.
From there it was skipper Ahmad to push the score on, finishing on a seasons best 61 not out and Glens final score after 40 overs was 252 for 7.
Glens started the second innings well as well as Qasim Ahmad took two wickets in the opening spell, dismissing Saghir and Sallie. Wickets continued to fell regularly around Mungi who played a very good innings of 47 runs, with the other batters struggling on the soft and battered pitch.
Kinloch 3 eventually bowled out for 71 runs. Another key highlight forGlens bowling to mention is Aayan Sakhir’s first 1st XI wicket for Glenrothes. Many thanks to Kinloch for making the effort to make the game possible.
