Scunnered by the Rain

The table-topping clash between Glenrothes and Kinloch 2s in the Breedon Strathmore and Perthshire Cricket Union (SPCU) Division 2 on Saturday was to fall victim to a recurring theme of the late summer - rain!

With torrential rain in Dundee (home of Kinloch) meaning the visitors had been wary of travelling, there was far more confidence in Glenrothes as Gilvenbank Park stayed dry throughout the morning. But this was to soon turn to disappointment as heavy rain came in around the toss time, and with only four K2 players there agreement was reached to cancel the game.

But patience is a wonderful thing, and in years gone by this might have been the situation where you wait with a bit of hope and see if conditions would improve. So it was good to see the Glenrothes players hanging back, watching some cricket on the TV and discussing all things, yes you guessed it, cricket....

And so it was to be that the rain did stop, the sun came out and an easterly wind helped dry the ground. So what else do you do but take the opportunity to have a practice game, with the Glens players decanting to the Ramsay Oval to play on the artificial pitch for a couple of hours! Great to see all the players sticking together through adversary.

With no change at the top of the SPCU Division 2, all eyes now turn to the run-in of games to the end of season. Next Saturday, 12 August, sess Glenrothes host Largo 2s and then it's on the road the following two weeks as they visit Broomhall and Dundee HSFP 2s.
