Largo B 64-2 v 65-0 Glens and Strathmore 70-2 v 58-2 Glens

Glenrothes were delighted to play at the Largo Sixes on Saturday 2 September - on pretty much the most perfect day of the summer!

Sixes cricket involve teams of six playing fast and intense cricket - only five fielders so lots of gaps to hit the boundary shots (and 4s count for six runs and 6s count for 10 runs) and quick singles and more!

First up was the Largo B team. Largo scored 64 for 2 in their five overs, with a wicket each to young Ben Krzyzanowski with a very sharp caught and bowled and Sufyan Ahmad thanks to a catch by Mayank Sautiyal on the boundary. Glens were to chase this down without loss of any wickets, with Sufyan retired on 37 and young Tanveer hitting a big six to win the game.

The second game was against Strathmore - which ended up being a combined Strathmore and Dunnikier team, and with both those teams playing at "championship" level in their normal leagues Glens knew they would all have to play at their best to cause an upset.

Strathmore batted first and scored 70-2 from their 5 overs - a great start for Glens with all bowlers bowling economically with the upset looking good but there was to be 43 scored off the last over to move to a par score. There was a first over wicket to Anas caught by youngster Muhammad Tayyiub as keeper and the second wicket was a retiral out to get the last over impetus.

Glenrothes got off to a slow start in the second innings with just nine scored from the first two overs, but Mayank was to find his range soon after and get the scoreboard moving. Mayank was to soon retire, but not without controversy - the scoreboard had him retired but his actual score was only 28 meaning he had the chance to hit another boundary before retiring. At the end of the fourth over, the score was 47 for 1 from 4 leaving 24 needed from the last over - but with Sufyan caught on the long-off boundary fourth ball (in what could have been a game-changer) it was to be Strathmore to hold on and claim the win.

All in, the Glenrothes squad had a great time at the event - a game of one-hand-one-bounce on the sidelines certainly kept the spirits up! It was great to see three youngsters from our Under 16s squad contributing very positively (well done Anas, Ben and Muhammad) and brilliant to see Garry Tighe finally make his debut (after a few recent friendly games were canceled by other teams pulling out) and he did himself proud.

Many thanks to Largo for hosting so well, our invite was really appreciated.
