Glenrothes 1st X1 made a long trip passed Aberdeen on Saturday to play Stoneywood Dyce 2nd XI in the SPCU Division 1. With rain persisting for a number of days it was great to get the confirmation that the match was going ahead.
Glens won the toss and decided to bowl first. Stoneywood Dyce made a steady start, and they were 35 after 10 overs with the loss of no wicket.
The home side started to capitalize on the solid start before Urvish Patel entered the bowling attack and returned career best figures of 6 for 16 in just over seven overs, and his first five wicket haul for Glenrothes.
Stoneywood Dyce lost their first wicket at 65 runs and they collapsed to 98 for 8 before an excellent recovery partnership between Hood and Rayner. They both put a strong partnership of 60 runs, eventually Stoneywood Dyce were all out for 159 runs.
Govind Singh (3 wickets) and Mayank Sautiyal (1 wicket) also bowled well. Though a recurring theme of too many extras conceded will have been a disappointment for the Glens team, with 38 wides from a total of 44 extras.
Glens felt confident at the break of chasing the total, but Stoneywood Dyce had different ideas and there opening bowlers Ryan Williams and Sasi Dumpa had Glens reeling at 50 for the loss of 6 wickets.
Glens did not lose hope and a commanding partnership of 109 runs between Urvish Patel (38) runs and Mayank Sautiyal (67*) ensured Glens took the victory home.
Many thanks to Stoneywood Dyce for making the effort to make the play possible.
