Rossie Priory 208-5 v 185 a/o Glenrothes

The 1st XI welcomed Rossie Priory from Inchture in Perthshire to Gilvenbank Park on Saturday, in the Strathmore and Perthshire Cricket Union Division 1.

Home skipper Qasim Ahmad won the toss and asked Rossie Priory to bat first, and the fall of two early wickets gave Glenrothes a lot of confidence.

Opener Bruce Stephens was dropped twice, but otherwise made batting look easy against the home attack to hit an excellent 53 before he was dismissed on the team total of 101 for 3 from 24 overs.

From there, Tzon Stafylarakis showed his class with a near faultless innings and despite two further wickets falling he was able to see Rossie Priory to a final score 208 for 5 from their 45 overs - Stafylarakis falling agonisingly short of a well deserved century on 99 not out.

Not much to shout about from the Glenrothes side, with too many full tosses and half trackers from the bowlers and some dropped catches also.

An above par score but with the outfield running fast the Glens lineup knew if they could bat well they would have a good chance of chasing down the total.

Unfortunately three early wickets put Glenrothes under pressure, but it was to opener Sufyan Ahmed and his brother Qasim Ahmad to bring stability - rotating the strike with ease and hitting any loose deliveries to the boundary.

Qasim Ahmad was to be dismissed for 26, and despite the next few batters making starts they were not able to stay the course.

The pressure eventually told for Sufyan Ahmed as one aggressive shot too many saw him caught and bowled by Phil Kirby for 88 and from there the Glenrothes side were then bowled out for 185.

Six batters dismissed bowled says a lot about eyes to the sky batting!

A well deserved win for Rossie Priory but Glenrothes will know reducing the sloppiness in the field and more focus in the batting will bring them rewards in the coming matches.

This Saturday sees the 1st XI host Largo at Gilvenbank Park whilst some other players will be taking part in the invitational Dollar Cricket Festival.
