Glenrothes 254 ao v 249 ao Stoneywood Dyce 2s

Glenrothes Cricket Club hosted a double-header at Gilvenbank Park on Saturday in the latest round of Strathmore and Perthshire Cricket Union (SPCU) fixtures.

The 1st XI played Stoneywood Dyce 2nd XI in the SPCU Division 1 on the Bell Oval.

With a number of players unavailable, young Muhammad Tayyiub was to get a deserved call up from the 2nd XI and he showed his increasing confidence in a century opening stand with Sufyan Ahmed.

Tayyiub though was soon after dismissed by Hood for 34, and despite a number of other wickets falling it was Ahmed to keep the scoreboard moving as he hit the ball around and out of the park on a regular basis.

Ahmed was to eventually fall for an excellent 128 from 107 balls, and with further quick runs from Farooq Khan (28) Glenrothes were able to get to 254 before being bowled out in the final over.

Stoneywood Dyce's opening batters looked in little trouble with the century opening stand came up in the 21st over - not least from a profligacy of wide balls being bowled.

Jordan Smith was to make the breakthrough though as he trapped Butt LBW for 25 and was soon followed back to the pavilion by fellow opener Lambley 42 off the bowling of Tayyiub.

Whilst the visitors continued to bat well, wickets did continue to fall with Mayank Sautiyal and Sufyan Ahmed each claiming two wickets leaving the game finely balanced.

It was to be Tayyiub to turn the game though as he claimed three further wickets to finish with four for 40 from his nine overs, which included a well judged catch on the boundary from the safest pair of hands in the club Jordan Smith, leaving Stoneywood Dyce to score 11 runs off the final over.

Bimal Nalupurakkal Balan found some extra energy to push the ball through at a higher pace which the batters couldn't cope with and with Nathan Salt as keeper running out last batter Arefi off the last ball Stoneywood Dyce were eventually bowled out 249 to give Glenrothes victory by five runs.

A very close game which either team could have won, but Glenrothes will know that conceding a massive 56 wides which costs not just the runs but an extra nine overs of bowling or so made the game far too close.
