After a double-header at Gilvenbank Park resulting in two defeats for GCC 1st and 2nd XI teams, Sunday's focus was back on the 1st XI as they welcomed Dumfries for a Cricket Scotland Challenge Cup match.
The Dumfries team was very much like the Arbroath team from Saturday - a perfect blend of youth and experience, demonstrating a team cohesion and delivery of the basics of the game to a high level.
Dumfries batted first and posted a formidable total of 314 for four from their 40 overs, with Van Zyl hitting an outstanding 155 with further support from Maritz of 50 not out.
Glenrothes got off to the worst possible start, as three of the top four in the batting order were dismissed for ducks without scoring. Opener James Slingsby (26) and Adeel Ali (22) in the middle-order battled well to bring some respectability to the score but wickets continued to fall around them at regular intervals before Glenrothes were bowled out for 112.
A chastening weekend for Glenrothes Cricket Club with three defeats from three games. For the 1st XI they should have learned a lot from the dedicated approaches taken from the visiting teams who outplayed them in every department.
