Following an unbeaten start in the first two rounds of the Strathmore and Perthshire Cricket Union (SPCU), Glenrothes Cricket Club suffered two losses on Saturday.
At Gilvenbank Park in Glenrothes, the 1st XI hosted Rossie Priory from Inchture in an SPCU Division 1 match.
Glenrothes won the toss and, much to the surprise of the visitors, batted first - on a pitch which was expected to have variable bounce and making posting a competitive total difficult without the right mindset.
This possibly played into the minds of the home batters as they struggled to find a tempo to their batting.
Only Govind Singh was able to post a score of any substance, in scoring 20, against a bowling attack which carried no concerns - Bruce Stephens keeping his usual "quietly consistent" reputation going with four wickets for 24 runs.
Glenrothes were bowled out for 111 in the 33rd over, and will have been hoping for an early breakthrough to inject some nerves into the Rossie innings.
The breakthrough came later than hoped, as Malik Noor (18) ws caught very well on the long-off boundary by Mayank Sautiyal, despite some sideline distractions by the Rossie team, off the bowling of Muhammad Osama.
From here it was to be Rossie's game, as Bruce Stephens quietly accumulated (19* not out) but it was batting partner Javeid Mumtaz hit out - two 4's and five 6's as he passed his half century.
Bimal Nallupurakkal Balan was to claim Mumtaz's (54) wicket with a well taken catch by skipper Qasim Ahmad with just four runs required for the win - which was quickly completed.
