Glenrothes 1st XI welcomed Kinloch to Gilvenbank Park on Saturday for the latest round of the SPCU Division 1.
Kinloch won the toss and invited Glenrothes to bat first, but a solid start by Govind Singh soon set the tone for the innings. He was to be bowled for 14 by Shazad Ahmed, but from there fellow opener Muhammad Tayyiub and Sufyan Ahmed kept the batting pace going.
With Ahmed going at a run a ball in his usual approach, Tayyiub showed his continued progress with some well timed shots and a massive six. Closing in on their century partnership, Tayyiub will have been disappointed to be trapped LBW by Saqib Iqbal for 30.
There was to be a number of wickets to fall as Shazad Ahmed went on to a claim an excellent five for 30 from his nine overs, but Glenrothes' Ahmed continued to thump the ball to all parts and will have been gutted to fall agonisingly one run short of his century.
With further runs from skipper Qasim Ahmad (24) and Bimal Nalupurakkal Balan (19), Glenrothes were to end their innings on 237 for 8 from 45 overs.
The seconds innings began well for the home side, as a fine opening spell from Balan put the Kinloch batters under pressure. He was to claim two for 22 from seven overs, bowling Niazi for 11 and Farooq caught by keeper Sufyan Ahmed for 15.
With Qasim Ahmad dismissing the other opener Amin for 14 to a catch by Mayank Sautiyal, Kinloch had progressed to 56 for three from 14 overs. It was at this point though that torrential rain came.
Glenrothes were 25 runs ahead on the DLS at this point but with 20 overs required to be bowled for a result to be possible, the game was unfortunately abandoned.
A game that got away in the end, though no doubt Kinloch will have felt the same.
