A soft pitch meant it was an easy decision for visiting Forfarshire 2nd XI captain Clark McConnachie to put Glenrothes into bat.

The pre-match chat had been about patience, defending the good balls and waiting for the bad balls before being aggressive.

It didn't quite go that way. Many of the batters in the top order made starts, but couldn't push on to the "long" or "big" scores required - Sufyan Ahmed top-scoring with 42.

Glenrothes bowled out for 164 in the 39th over, knowing they needed to get to 200 to make Forfs take some risks in their batting.

Patience though was to be the backbone of the Forfs innings, as Graeme Garden and Aashiq Elahi laid the foundations with a half century opening partnership.

Elahi was to first to go thanks to a run out by Anas Tanveer. A solid second wicket partnership with Jonathan Main joining Garden was approaching the half century mark also, before Muhammad Tayyiub saw Main caught by Karthik Coppisetty.

Anas Tanveer was to immediately follow that up to dismiss Garden for 45 thanks to a catch on the re-bound by Govind Singh at wicket-keeper.

Further wickets to Tanveer and Mayank Sautiyal were to provide some hope, but James Girolami (33*) at number 6 was to bat very well to take Forfs to the win.

A disappointing loss but one Glens will be hoping to recover from quickly.
